Valorite is getting more worthless every day. Shadow becomes the new valorite.

Earlier this year two changes were made that had a direct impact on the ingot market. While I predicted a certain impact on the ingot market, I would assume other changes would follow to keep things balanced. This wasn't the case and only four months later the effects are becoming visible. The changes I'm talking about:

March 2017: - Mining now gives a chance to spawn mobs that drop nice stuff
  • Lower overall supply of resources: The change had the desired impact and there are less afk botters these days. The lowest found iron ingot price has risen from 6.5 to 7.5 within the first 2 months (but this seems stable now due to the NPC 8.0 roof price).
  • Oversupply of valorite and agapite: Those who adapted found it much easier to obtain valorite and agapite as the mobs drop significant amounts of them. I dare to claim that you gain valorite equally fast this way compared to recall mining on valorite nodes. So now cherry pickers as normal miners are flooding the market. The lowest found valorite ingot price has dropped from 54.0 to 50.0 within the first 2 months. I couldn't comment on agapite as it barely moves in the market but I'd be happy if I could still get 40.0 for it today.

April 2017: - All swampy barding deeds now have the same damage reduction
  • Over demand of shadow: Shadow is the most popular color compared to the other colors. Since these changes a lot of people have been trading and upgrading their swampies with a shadow armor. Ofcourse there are a few ones who prefer another color like gold or verite, but overall shadow is the dominant color. The lowest shadow price has risen from 15.0 to 20.0 within two months.
  • Under demand of valorite: Since other colors are equally good, valorite demand has dropped to nearly zero. Why use the most expensive material when you can have a lot of other more appealing options that are cheaper. As a result I see the lowest valorite price continues to drop from 50.0 to 45.0 within two months.

I don't say this out of self interest, I can adapt and mine whatever color thats is currently popular. What I want is to address the issue that the demand and supply are shifting and that a low end ore is becoming increasingly more valuable compared to an end game ore. I believe some adjustments are in order to restore balance because the effects are already huge considering the changes haven't been live for even half a year.

I made a miner this weekend specifically to mine iron only. Locked my skill at 64.9 and after a few hours I dug up about 9,000 iron ore and ended up with about 1,500 Agapite and 1,500 Valorite ingots. My other miner is at 115 and has never even mined up 500 valorite ore.

Don't need to, it's already happening. Some would say it's like an invisible hand that's determining the price... very odd!

;)

i think the price of all resources are way to low and that bring us to the main problem there are not enough resource sinks.

I am never one to rain on a seller's parade as I sell anything i can get my grubby hands on....but valorite runic weps and valorite armor have their place in the game.

Yes not everyone is walking around with val runic weps because they are 1mil a hit, but when many, many ppl have miners there isn't a need to buy valorite.

Much easier to get gold and under runics so those will be in supply for crafting weapons, and of course whatever color ppl want their armor/barding to be will be most popular...some don't even care about AR. Just what they look like. This has been a pattern on unofficial shards forever, so unless you're on a shard with 50k+ players on at the same time where ppl have 10-50 bod collectors to make high end runics a little more obtainable...you're not going to be able to make a demand for valorite.

Too many miners, not enough runics, but that is how it will always be. Especially with old school players who usually make their own crafters.

@MadNezz I get what you are saying but UOF is not the standard freeshard. There are lots of features that keeps crafting alive on this server (slayercrafting, tier 2/3 crafting, barding, shipbuilding, ...) dispite that a lot of players can have a crafter alt themselves. You are partially right when you say the colored ore only serve purpose for creating runics, but valorite was the exception mostly due to barding and in some degree also the defence relic.

Valorite nodes were in high demand and it created rivallary and they got contested. After the elemental change it was a lot easier to obtain agapite/valorite. The weeks that followed, I noticed others stopped doing those nodes as well (I live next to a publicly known valorite node, so I can tell by the traffic).

I like the barding change. What I dislike is the consequences it brought with it. There've been numerous suggestions by players to give more use to colored ores over the years but they got never used. With the this change it just killed the one of the last uses for valorite.
