Is stealing worth it?

this. Stealing skill only determines ability to steal from people/packys, not stealable rares, right? So are people really carrying stuff that makes it worth it?

Powerscrolls at champs. Slayers at Britain Crafting area. Some people's new weapons they forget are in their pack at banks. But no stealable rares; those drop on mobs now.

Thieving used to be an art, unfortunately (like much of modern ultima) it has been butchered by shitty players using advanced clients - namely UO steam scripts.

I have a thief, but i use his blacksmith and tailoring for collecting bods more than i do actively stealing stuff.

thanks yall. think i'm gonna give it a lazy shot, like one of those backburner shots you only turn to when taming one more bull named LOLZ or ASDF or [guild]SUX on dagger isle will result in your computer lying at the bottom of your pool.

Pity about the stealable rares though, or unstealable as the case may now be. It sounded fun. so all those cool little knickknacks just drop on monsters? any monsters in particular? sounds kinda one dimensional, but I'd be curious to give em a shot...

One thing that is key if you want to steal in town - make sure your stats are maxed (I think its dex and int) otherwise you will get guard smacked a lot.

Stealing is always worth it. Some folks have this built in mechanism that automatically relate in-game stealing to real life exploits and thus, treat the thief as such. Others consider the profession *as noted above* as a skill that requires zero effort with one hundred percent reward *I have found this comment incredibly humorous* when in fact, some thieves have been known to spend weeks scoping out a potential target to actually fail due to some unforeseen circumstance. I will add however, stealing has become a lot easier with the help of scripts which has ruined the thief in so many ways. You don't have to use scripts, but you will be faced with a disadvantage when patrolling champion spawns if there is a thief there using auto-mode.

Honestly, the best use of a thief now is pretty much exploration and combining your game-play with a little role-play or using a player vs player thief *always seems strange when typing PVP thief, since all thieves who actively steal from other players are automatically open to player vs player interaction*.

Good luck.

It's not really worth it money wise unless you know exactly what you are doing, and even then if you just want to make a lot of gold there are many better ways.

That being said, stealing items potentially worth millions from your competitors is a lot of fun.

Don't think stats matter a whole lot in this regard.

Can't blame the guy, probably getting stalked by naked shitters at the crafting zone all the time.

Also having both 100 int and 100 dex is not worth it at all imo.
I'm inclined to agree with you, drasked; however, if steal-detect radius were reduced due to a high dex/intel, then you could have a "glass" thief that would be able to get away with single steals always, but would die easily if engaged.

The perfect bank thief.
