Proposal of New Metals Addition to UOF

I like the thoughtfulness you put into this idea because there are so many threads that are just like "add rare color ingots, now!" and never go into detail.

That said, I have a few concerns about this idea.

  1. As said above, there are quite a few hues you got picked out there. Don't get me wrong some of them hues are pretty sweet (I mean mithril- damn!). I just don't think a lot of those colors work with the feel we want on UOF. Maybe more toned down hues?
  2. Too many ingot types. As said above also, maybe suggest just one alternative color for each ingot. Too many ingot types mean that trying to track down others with the correct ingot to trade and get what you need will be pretty painful.
  3. Crafting is already a fairly complex process for most new players, I think adding this on, although it is obviously more end game, might be adding too much complexity. I get having all of these things like a pickaxe, hammer, and gloves adds to the rarity, but I think rarity can come in less complex ways.
  4. We do have a lot of players that like to wear deco items worth millions, however almost all of those items are blessed. Having wearables that are multi-million gold items that cannot be blessed probably will not be worn much or used at all.
Overall, I like the idea and getting rare hue'd ore while mining for the normal ones, but the idea needs to be tweaked some more.
Awesome feed back ! .. I will certainly take all of this into consideration on my first revision .. Many of your points I totally agree with..

I think to make things less complicated:
1. Each ore has 1 additional tier (Mined at 120, very very small chance)
2. Ores are mined using normal pickaxes/shovels, and have 100% success chance to be smelted to ingots due to their rarity. This would encourage trading ingots with other people for the colors u desire.
3. The blacksmith hammer to craft items would be a donation item (price determined by staff) and exclusively usable on ONLY the 'special' ore types.
4. All items crafted with the donation hammer would be innately blessed, however would be completely statless (no AR, no res). Putting them on par with other cool wearables (and Phoenix/ranger) but not effecting gameplay in any way.

Not really fair for those who can't afford to donate. Gold sink. Donation should not include gameplay advantages.

People sell donation coins everyday... 175-185k per 1000 coin. There's no reason u can't buy coins with gold if u need them? (That is a gold sink is it not?). Also donation coins stimulate growth on the server and pay for staff. Good sink vendors do what, reduce world save lag? Lol

Also I proposed the special hued / crafted armor have no stats thus providing zero gameplay advantage. Or did u not bother to read that? :p

No I just missed reading that. And now reading that part I'm for buying Dono coins to buy the hammer but what will happen is the donaters buy the hammer with Dono coins, put it up for sale for allot more gold then what it cost in Dono, and buy their Dono coins back at the normal rate with all the gold they just made, buy another hammer, rinse and repeat. So just the blacksmiths take the hit not the donaters, and the donaters will probly get rich. Maybe people won't pay? Not saying it's good or bad just what will maybe happen? Does that matter? I dunno...

I guess what I was tryin to also say is this is for miners/blacksmiths right ? Not donaters? If it's gold sink then there is no "price control" and the crafters should benefit, and only crafters would buy them as it makes no sense for a random non crafter to buy and make gold. However yes it's good for the server and If they donate real money they have the right to charge but limited crafters probly will make the stuff. Thoughts?

In the current market people usually only pay 80-90% of what it costs to buy a donation item, putting the person who bought the item for dono at a loss in gold value. There would be no way to make 'profit' off said item unless it was removed as an option to buy from the dono vendor, making no longer obtainable

In other words: 1k dono sells for 175-185k, but an item that costs 1k dono will sell for rough 165-170k. Make sense?

Right plus you don't have to buy a hammer etc that Somone else is selling. If you buy the Dono coins at the norm price and buy ur own hammer there is no price control. Was late when I posted.

Great thread and I agree with halygon that it should be less complicated.
But I think you might be a mind reader I was just about to post a not so elaborate thread for the same topic.

sweet idea , maybe we can just have some new metals

some just "deco" metals :

example: icy iron , blaze iron, othernice hue iron : you can craft everything but armor\weapon will have like 10%hp so they will be not useful in pvp\pvm

but u can craft really nice things with tinkering\carpentry\blacksmisth just for decos;

they can be mined randomly not with e Node\Vein system, and very rare.

and\OR

you can add some kind of forging\smelting toghether two mineral to get some better ones:

example:

shadow+valorite = to get a new metal that have black hue (that every player loves) and great AR.

I do the like the mixing idea. A two window prompt with 'color of material' and 'properties of material'

In no way shape or form should donating money have anything to do with crafting

I like the idea but I feel that some colors are to bright. Also, one new ore type per current ore would be acceptable. And please make it an extremely rare chance to get.

Miners that are getting rares (in the form of ore)? That's unheared off! Go make youself a fisher :p
/sarcasm intended if that wasn't clear. I would love to mine up something rare now and then.

i really like this idea..but as stated above, there should be less of the "new" metals. and some of them are just too flashy imo. i think if there were maybe 4-8 extra colors, it would be ok. hell, i would try to craft them just to lock a down a suit in my house. with the time and money invested for a chance to create the newer metals, i doubt people will be running around fighting in them. but i think thats a good thing. its like investing time and money into a chance at creating a rare.

I like the idea of aloys.
Use this hues but not for new rare ore, but for aloys from mixing.
imo, it's already enough ore, for aesthtical reason it would be aweseome to mix ingots to get a rare hue. Like 3 ingots of verite and 2 ingots of valorite get you one ingot of special hued mithril (for example). It got the same ar like Valorite, but it is looking freaking awesome. Mixing aloys will give the ingot market a boost and create some rare armor hues. You will always need more low tier ingots then high tier. Like to get an ingot of dull valorite you will need 12 ingots dull copper and two ingots valorite. Or make it harder to mix rare aloys and get the miners back into the mines.
