They don't have to add mechanics to protect the event. We can use existing mechanics to make the event really hard to grief. If you think it'll be easy to get to the island, make sure you bring a boat. I'd also save your stuck feature for when you get steam rolled and need a port off the island.

Hmm maybe we should make it a no-mount island so we can unleash the wrath of dragons upon the nay sayers.

If you think it'll be easy to get to the island, make sure you bring a boat.

The island appears to still be rune-markable by outsiders, so unless it becomes a no recall whatsoever zone, shoring up that bit of intended defense may prove impossible due to runes already potentially floating around and destined for libraries. But with the protections on the auction house and the pirate guild defenses, I can't see that ending up being a dealbreaker. :p

Adam hasn't added in some of the code yet. We're still waiting for a map update of the island, along with an update to some of the scripts that wipes the existing runes on the island and makes it un-markable for everyone except the island owner.

Well at least I gained some magery marking those runes for myself.

I was actually logged out directly on top of the auction item showcase tile inside the auction house prior to the structure being made into official housing and becoming blocked. Would that I had remained logged out there instead of squandering it by leaving, I'm sure some mischief could've been made when the first auction rolled around! ;) But barring anyone ELSE having done that, I'd say that auction house is pretty darn secure, haha.

Plus, I'm not just going to open moongates to the island from Brit Bank. I'll open up moongates to another home, which you need to enter and take a house-to-house teleporter to the island. We can pre-screen and ban players from entering the island this way. It'll cost me some money, but it's an added security feature which I think will help keep the events safe from interruption.

The walls are built in a way to block los, so they can't cast on players in the AH. And since it's a static house, the walls may even block chain lightning and meteor shower, but I'll have to test that later. But I do know the auctioneer is safe in the auction pit, you'd have to get into the auction pit to kill the auctioneer.

If I had been logged out on that tile and timed my log-in, snatch, and getaway recall within moments of each other, there might be a few millisecond window to grab something... although you're probably also locking the item down immediately, so that would be one heck of a master heist. XD If anyone breaks these defenses, I'll just be impressed! I initially got into the upper part of the AH via teleport from the ground, so I know there was at least los to the outer wall tiles, but probably no further than that. I guess the auction house itself will be locked to prevent people from just entering it quickly via docking a boat right outside?

I really Hope someone tries this! We have like 7 serious pirates in the alliance always looking for sea battles

Oh I assumed as much, though that implies any visitor whatsoever will be blasted out of the waters, which I guess is indeed the intended case, hah. Still possible to sneak in during pirate downtime and log out somewhere in advance of an event there, but I guess they'd have to REALLY want to be there. :p

Its not meant to be impossible, just to give us the ability to defend it, and even if you get on the island and in the auction house you can't get to the auctioneer with the goods (Or so i'm told once it is finished)

Fair point! I just enjoy the mental exercise of looking for security holes. From what I can see, the most anyone could do is mayyybe manage to target someone sitting on an outer bench of the AH from the ground, but I expect people would chase 'em off before they could amount to anything more than a temporary diversion.

An island with events that requires people having boats to goto = an island no one goes to.
We will be gating from inside a house, with a ban reds and greys macro ruining. A gate to that house will be obtainable from wbb. blues will be able to get to the island with ease, reds will have to sail.

Hope to see newbs in purple attempt that, would be funny to sink a boat with 20 eqms reds on it.

Actually Glutt - you missed the great turkey hunt a year or so back when galleons were introduced.

Buc's Den was locked down and only accessible via boat. The devs gave out galleons (which were removed later) at a beach in occlo, where they had a gate from WBB to. Everyone was pirating all the way to Bucs. Once on Bucs, we found the island completely filled with giant fire-breathing turkeys who fire fireballs like a machine gun. The island was packed with players and the PKs were on murder sprees. It was a great time for Blues/Reds/Turkeys.

I have been a pirate every since.

I should also add everyone should be really thankful that the person who won this island is really wanting to put it to great public use.
Not many people would do that, it's a great thing, and we support that 100%
